Stress, Time Management & Hypnosis

When stressed your time management tends to go out of control.  Loss of concentration is another factor when stressed.  My stress management clients use hypnosis to relax their mind and bodies with immediate effect.  Another tool I use is to set time limits of activities.  For example, if you divide activities into 20 minute segments you can be more productive and this can help improve your stress levels as you feel you are getting things done and in the background your hypnotherapy sessions are helping to deal with the negative effects of stress.  This is also a great tool for procrastinators.

How does it work?  One hour will give you 3 segments of 20 minutes – 3 tasks that can be started and even finished in that.  If not completed, you must move to another task.  This will give your subconscious mind a chance to work its magic and while you are distracted at a conscious level with another task, when you return to the unfinished task, you come back to it with fresh eyes.  Make sure to set your alarm on your mobile or computer so that you move effortlessly from task to task.  You also learn how to understand time.  This also incorporates relaxation time.  You can do self hypnosis deeply and productively within 20 minutes and be refreshed.  It also acts as a schedule for breaks.  When eating you need to allow 20 minutes – that is the time it takes for the signal in the stomach to tell the brain it is full.

Do this tomorrow and see how more productive you are at the end of the day.  It will be strange at first but you will settle into it.  As the stress eases in your life then you change the time slots to suit you – maybe two 30 minute segments or four 15 minute segment but always start with 20 minutes segments.  If you want to get things done then you have to make time to deal with your stress and divide the work into manageable segments so you end the day with a sense of achievement and feeling good about what you accomplished.  Of course, you not complete everything you set out to do on day 1, but it gives you a structure which is goes missing once your mind and body are feeling the effects of stress.  It also teaches you how to prioritise and not get caught up with nonsense.

Stress Management and Hypnosis

When your body experiences stress (either perceived and real), the brain releases chemicals around the body telling it to shut down digestion, shallow breath, heart pumps increases production to send more blood to arms and legs for “fight or flight”. With this adrenaline running through your body you may experience shakes, sensations of clamminess, dry mouth, nervousness, frustration, panic and aggression.  The theory is that when the threat abates, the body settles down to normal functioning but what happens if the threat is perceived and your thoughts are driving the adrenaline rush around your body. Your body reacts as though the threat is real.

While you may “come down” from the peak of the effects of stress, the body does not settle completely and each time you perceive something stressful, the body is thrown into turmoil and all because of your thoughts.  With hypnosis and NLP (neuro linguistic programming) you can learn how to stop these thoughts from wearing out your body.  Do you suffer from muscle ache, headache or an inability to breathe deeply? These symptoms can be helped by learning how to first relax the mind and body (to give them a break as it were) and then you can work on your subconscious programming – why you feel threatened in the first place. 

The wonderful experience of hypnosis while focusing on the change you want to make (in this case, calm and relaxed) is beneficial in that you are turning on your own self healing energy, all normal working order to be restored to the body and the mind).  In this context the “threat” can be attending a meeting, standing up in front of people, going out – whatever causes you to feel like running away and makes you angry is your “threat”.  Because the perceived threat re-enforces the fear and panic, that strong neural connection in your mind must be broken.  But before breaking it, we need to understand why you feel threatened.  Is it a lack of confidence or an inability to be assertive? 

Whatever it is we can work on it together and at the same time make new neural links (remember your brain is a mine of electrical activity and this is to our advantage in that we can re-wire your brain essentially).  The new neural links become stronger as you practice your new skills.  The main component is that you feel you can change but just don’t know how. 

Then you focus on how great your life would be without stressful thoughts – what can you do with all that thought space you are creating?  How would you hold yourself, how would you feel being confident and assertive?  What would be great about your life with this change made? 

All hypnosis is self hypnosis and you are learning how to adapt these processes into all other areas of your life – you gain your rightful place – as the controller of your mind and its working all with the help of hypnosis and NLP.  It is about making you the best you can be and bringing out the best of you so that you can be happier and more content with your mind free to concentrate on the things you really want to think about.  Take a moment to close your eyes and image a stressfree you.  How do you hold yourself, how do you look, how do you feel?  How wonderful would that be – and all with the power of hypnosis!

Stress, Depression & Hypnosis: Dublin

When you start to feel yourself going down, do you notice a change in your body – do you bend your head forwards, or do you feel a pressure from the top of your head as if you are physically being ground into the ground?  What you experience physically is a manifestation of what is going on inside your mind?  How many times have you thought to yourself “I can’t deal with this weight (=pressure) any more”?  Do you find the world to be darker because your mind is so busy, too many thoughts to really know what is going on, just too much noise in your head?

Anger: How to change your reaction

Most of my anger management clients are men and one of the prevailing issues for them is the fear of alienating children and their significant other.  Breaking and smashing of inanimate objects but then seeing fear in your child’s eyes and in your wife’s body language produces an unimaginable guilt feeling but yet you find this pattern repeating itself, knowing the devastation you are causing yourself and your family. 

There is a way to clear your mind, halt the anger inside you and learning new behavioural patterns to assert yourself.  Anger is the result of some other feeling - you feel threatened in some way.  If your relationship is on the rocks, do you think a show of power will keep it safe? 

I remember one of my clients was on the brink of suicide because he was so tired emotionally and physically of not being able to express himself at work and he took his frustration out on his wife and kids.  He saw the body language of fear in his family.  He knew his wife watched him to check what mood he was in and more often than not, she had the children in bed before he came home.  Within the first week of seeing me, his sleep had settled, his IBS had calmed down and I have given him tools so that on his drive home, it was his time to unwind and reframed going home as enjoyment.  One issue he had was the volume of his children (when they were still up) when he got home and it was reframing that to the reality that it was – children’s excitement at seeing their daddy – not irritating noise!  Within 4 weeks, he had become more assertive at work rather than let issues fester, he dealt with them as they arose. 

This man had gone from being suicidal to a calmer, loving man in the space of 4 weeks with immediate changes from session 1.  You don’t have to suffer or feel weak for seeking help.  My job is to help you access your inner resources, discover how to work your own mind and body to your benefit so that you can enjoy new ways of being.  But you must need to want to change.  Don’t come to me if you think your partner will accept you because you said you were seeing someone for help – that doesn’t work.  You have to decide to you want to embrace change for yourself first and foremost and this will ripple to those around you.
